Founding Artist & Owner
Mikey Vigilante is the founder, owner, and senior artist of Paper Crane Studio. He draws on nearly twenty years of industry experience while tattooing new clients and mentoring our hand-selected team of artists. Whether he’s working on an Irezumi back piece or teaching artists how to make needles, his deep love for tattooing is the cornerstone of Paper Crane Studio.

Joy Shannon
Music, Magic, Art: Ritual Tattoos and More
Triple Goddess Tattoos is the tattoo work by painter, printmaker, and musician Joy Shannon. Joy named her practice after the symbol she tattooed the most within her first year of tattooing: the pagan symbol for the phases of the moon and the sacred phases of the woman’s life (the maiden, mother, and crone). From intricate Celtic and Nordic knotwork to ritual tattoos, she brings deep creativity and genuine love to all of her tattoos.

Owen Juarez
Traditional Irezumi to American Traditional
Owen Juarez began his tattooing career nearly two decades ago after completing a traditional apprenticeship. He is heavily influenced by Japanese art and tattooing, with a particular love for the simplicity of the Edo period. Although Owen specializes in custom Irezumi and American Traditional tattoos, he is committed to creating unique pieces that match his clients' varied stylistic preferences. He loves to create large-scale designs such as sleeves, back pieces, and body suits.

Suzanne Shifflett
Creating Art, Connecting to Others
Suzanne Shifflett's tattooing career started in 1989 in San Francisco, where she apprenticed with tattoo artist Wayne Bruce Lee. At the time, the tattoo industry was very male dominated, but Suzanne broke boundaries of every kind with her talent--and she continues to do so today. With a BA in Sculpture and MA in Painting, it's easy to see the fine-art influence in Suzanne's work. She excels at a variety of styles, including book illustrations, animals/wildlife, portraits, and photorealism.

Ted Hawkins
Black and Grey Realism, Portraits, and Highly Detailed Renderings
Ted Hawkins began tattooing two decades ago. With a deep love of all things art and music, and all things creative, he gravitated towards tattooing as a way to express that creativity. He specializes in black and grey realism, doing portraits and highly detailed renderings of both people and animals.

Cindy Ortega

Cindy Ortega is a lifelong artist from San Diego, CA. Having pursued an education in art as early as high school, Cindy has an established background as an analogue artist in a variety of mediums. She actively enjoys continuing to draw and paint as much as she loves tattooing.
